Adult-Adolescent Parenting Inventory (AOL / AP-KIT)
The AAPI-2 is an inventory designed to assess the parenting and child rearing attitudes of adult and adolescent parent and pre-parent populations. Based on the known parenting and child rearing behaviors of abusive parents, responses to the inventory provide an index of risk for practicing behaviors known to be attributable to child abuse and neglect.
The Benefits of Assessment
• Measure the pre and post effectiveness of your parenting program.
• Determine parenting strengths and areas that need improvement.
• Increase the probability of funding with built-in pre-process-post assessment.
The Levels of Assessment
• Pre: Data collected prior to the formal start of your program to determine entry level capabilities.
• Process: Data collected during the program to monitor ongoing growth and changes.
• Post: Data collected at the completion of your program to determine the level of growth and future
intervention needs of the family.
Nurturing Skills Competency Scale (PRE-NSCS / NSF-NSCS / NSCS-PA)
The Nurturing Skills Competency Scale (NSCS) is a comprehensive criterion referenced measure designed to gather demographic data of the family, as well as knowledge and utilization of Nurturing Parenting practices. The data generated from the pre-post administration of the NSCS allows parents and staff an opportunity to measure changes in family life, knowledge and utilization of Nurturing Parenting practices. The functional purpose of assessment is to gather information for decision makers. Families, professionals in the helping fields, agency administrators and funding sources are typical decision makers that rely on information to assist them.
Pretest and Posttest Assessment
In measuring the effectiveness of your program in changing long standing parenting habits and beliefs, assessment is most often designed to gather information at the beginning and end of the program. It is important to use inventory assessment that has pretest and posttest versions which allow measurement of change without the bias of the practice effect.
When used in conjunction with the AAPI-2, the NSCS provides an index of Low, Moderate or High Risk for child maltreatment.
The Nurturing Quiz (NQ1 / NQ4 / SPNQ8)
The Nurturing Quiz is an informal multiple-choice inventory given pre and post intervention designed to measure knowledge parents and teens have of appropriate parenting practices. The Nurturing Quiz is easy to score and provides useful information regarding gains in knowledge the participants made.
The Family Social History Questionnaire (FSHQ)
The Family Social History Questionnaire is a self-report inventory given pre and posttest to gather information regarding the family demographics (age, gender, income, education level, etc.) and perceptions of childhood history. Participants rate the quality of their life with their partners and children.
Program Evaluation Forms (EF)
At the end of each home visit or group session, parents complete a Program Evaluation Form and rate the quality of the specific session, as well as the quality of their program in general. Parents list things they liked and disliked about the sessions and are offered opportunities to make recommendations to improve the instruction. An excellent way to assess the progress of the group and the clarity of your instruction.
Program Family Logs (FL)
The parent records on how they, their children and their family have changed as a result of attending the Nurturing Parenting classes. Focus on attitudes, behaviors and interactions that you noticed have changed in a positive way, and those that might have changed in a negative way.
Family Performance Chart (FRPC-4)
The facilitator enters the date at the end of each session a new concept was introduced. Record the date if the parent understands the concept or needs more work. The concept should be understood and accepted before advancing to the next concept. This form will be filled out to record progress of the parent in meeting competency requirements.
Special Needs & Health Challenges Competency Assessment (HCCA)
The parent facilitator completes the competency assessment after reviewing and discussing progress with the parent. Areas of strength will be noted, and areas that need attention or review will be noted. A plan for reinforcement of concepts will be discussed and implemented. This form will be filled out to record progress of the parent in meeting competency requirements.
